Ramakrishna Math, Dhaka, Bangladesh, celebrated Sri Sri Durga Puja with usual solemnity, festivity, and spiritual fervour like the previous years.
The physical presence of the devotees was very large in number and the virtual presence of the devotees was also huge. The whole program was telecast livestream.
The Puja on Shashthi and Saptami days were held in the spontaneous participation of the devotees of Dhaka and other parts of the country. The weather was congenial for the devotees througout all the days of the Puja. The sky was more or less sunny with however a few bouts of showers in between.
On the Ashtami day, Sheikh Hasina, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, visited the Puja Pandal of Ramakrishna Math, Dhaka and exchanged greetings with the monks and devotees gathered there. Head of the Centre welcomed her when she arrived at the Ashrama campus. Hon’ble PM was accompanied by the top dignitaries of the Government Administration, viz. Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Tapas, Hon’ble Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, Md. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Principal Secretary of the Hon’ble Prime Minister; Abdullah Al-Mamun Chowdhury, Inspector General of Police;, Mr. Habibur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Md. Monirul Islam, the Chief of the Special Branch of Police.
Mr. Pranay Verma, the Hon’ble High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh offered Pushpanjali before the deity on the Navami day along with his wife and other top officials of the office of the High Commission. Mr. Bikash Dewan, Managing Director, Dhaka Power Distribution Company(DPDC) Ltd., visited the Dhaka Math on that day at noon; Major General A K M Aminul Islam, Chief of Ansar and Village Defense Party(VDP) Bangladesh, came in the evening with his top officials. Mr. Ashim Kumar Ukil, Hon’ble Member of the Parliament, Netrokona-03, also came to visit our Puja in the evening.
Police and Para Military forces were deployed to maintain law and order and supervise the other security arrangements during the Puja. Nothing untoward happened. On Dashami day, immersion took place in the pond of our campus as on earlier occasions, and Shantijal ceremony was held in the presence of more than a few thousand devotees.
All the news media covered our programmes widely.
In total 30,000 devotees took Kichudi prasad during these days of the Puja.
