The first anniversary, freshers’ reception and meritorious students’ felicitation ceremony of the ‘Vivekananda Study Circle’ of the University of Dhaka was held on Monday, 27 July, at the Kishorilal Roy Chowdhury Memorial Auditorium, Rabindra Bhaban, Jagannath Hall, Dhaka University.
The programme was graced by Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Debashish Pal, Provost of Jagannath Hall, presided over the programme.
Among the distinguished guests were Swami Ambeshanandaji Maharaj, monk of the
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka; Sanjay Kumar Dey and Jhoton
Chandra Roy, Residential Teachers of Jagannath Hall; Engineer Ashutosh Roy, President of the Vivekananda Shiksha O Sangskriti Parishad, Bangladesh; and Dr. Sukanta Roy, General Secretary of the organization.
At the outset, Chief Guest Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj and President of the
Vivekananda Study Circle and Provost of Jagannath Hall, Mr. Debashish Pal, inaugurated the new office of the Vivekananda Study Circle and unveiled its plaque. Floral tributes were subsequently offered to Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda.
The distinguished guests then paid floral tribute to the statue of Swami Vivekananda on the Jagannath Hall premises. As part of the programme, a white sandalwood sapling was planted at Rabindra Bhaban, along with five neem saplings on the Hall premises on behalf of the ‘Vivekananda Study Circle’.
The main programme commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by Chief Guest Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj before the portrait of Swami Vivekananda, followed by the chanting of Vedic peace mantras. Students of Jagannath Hall, inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, then presented the inaugural song.
More than 100 newly admitted students of the 2025–26 academic session were warmly welcomed at the freshers’ reception. On the occasion, 11 meritorious students associated with the organization were felicitated for their outstanding professional achievements. Chief Guest Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj presented them with commemorative awards in recognition of their accomplishments.
The special guests subsequently addressed the gathering, highlighting the ideals, teachings, philosophy and contemporary relevance of Swami Vivekananda.
A significant part of the programme was the announcement of the first committee of the
‘Vivekananda Study Circle’ by Chief Guest Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj, who also administered the oath of office to its members. In his address, he emphasized the importance of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and ideals in individual, social and national life and encouraged the students and young people to shape their lives in accordance with those ideals.
In his concluding address, Debashish Pal, President of the Vivekananda Study Circle and Provost of Jagannath Hall, spoke on the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s ideas and teachings in contemporary education and various fields of human development.
The programme concluded with the permission of the President. Following the event, the
President, Chief Guest and distinguished guests attended a dinner hosted at the office of the Provost of Jagannath Hall.
The ceremony marked a meaningful milestone in the journey of the Vivekananda Study Circle, bringing together the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the enthusiasm of young students and a renewed commitment to character-building, education and service.
