Report of the 191 st Birth Day (Janmatithi) of Sri Ramakrishna at Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka

The 191 st Birth Day (Janmatithi) of Sri Ramakrishna was celebrated at Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka from 17 February 2026 to 20 February 2026 with due festivity and spiritual fervour. The celebration was preceded by a drawing competition among the students up to class ten on 30 January 2026 and Gita Chanting, Quiz & Speech competitions among the students up to honors level on 6 February 2026. The subject matter of quiz and speech competition was ‘Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Maa Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda’. Pandal and stage were constructed on the ground in front of Sri Sri Thakur’s Temple in connection with this program.

In the 4 day celebration 17 February was marked by Ramayan Song, formal inauguration program, cultural program, prize distribution among the winners of sports competition of Ramakrishna Mission High School, discussion meeting and drama. Ramayan song was held on the stage under the pandal from 11:00 A. M. to 3:00 P.M. The formal inauguration of the 191st Birth Day Celebration of Sri Ramakrishna was held on the ground in front of Ramakrishna Mission High School at 3:30 P.M.

The session was featured by chanting from the Holy Scriptures (Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Quran), national flag hoisting, national anthem, release of balloon tagged with a festoon of the 191 st Birth Day celebration of Sri Ramakrishna, release of pigeons and parade-performance by the students of Ramakrishna Mission High School & Sarada Shishu Niketan, Dhaka. Swami Purnatmananda, Adhyaksha & Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka and the Spiritual Head of the Ramakrishna Order in Bangladesh inaugurated the 4 day celebration. The inaugural session was followed by a brief discussion meeting, titled ‘The Ideal of Swami Vivekananda’ on the stage. Swami Purnatmananda delivered words of benediction. Presided over by Justice Soumendra Sarker, Former Justice, Bangladesh Supreme Court and the President of the Managing Committee of Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka, the meeting was addressed by Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Former Pro-VC, Dhaka University and Engineer Ujjwal Mallick, Former Chief Engineer, RAJUK. Mr. Joy Prakash Sarkar, Head Master, Ramakrishna Mission High School delivered inaugural speech. The meeting was followed by cultural program, performed by the students of Ramakrishna Mission High School and Sarada Shishu Niketan.

Another discussion meeting titled ‘The Universal Message of Swami Vivekananda’ was held after the evening prayer. Swami Purnatmananda in the Chair the discussion meeting was addressed by Mr. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, Secretary, Internal Resource Division and Chairman, National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest, Professor Robaet Ferdous, Mass Communication & Journalism Department, Dhaka University and Dr. Mandira Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Philosophy Department, Dhaka University as the special guests. Sri Joy Prakash Sarkar delivered inaugural speech in this meeting also. Prize was distributed among the winners of the sports competition of Ramakrishna Mission High School.
The sports competition was held a few days ahead of this Celebration. The discussion meeting was followed by a drama titled ‘Blue Shadow of Fate’. Based on Monkey’s Paw by W. W. Jacobs, the Drama was composed & directed by Shubhashish Dutta Tanmoy and was performed by the students of Ramakrishna Mission High School.

18 February was marked by Padavali Kirtan, Solo Tabla Performance, cultural program, discussion meeting and songs. Padavali Kirtan was held at 11:00 A.M. and was performed by Amal Banerjee & his party.

A discussion meeting titled ‘Swami Vivekananda’ was held at 4:00 P. M.. Swami Purnatmananda in the Chair the discussion meeting was addressed by General Wakar-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Bangladesh Army, as the Chief Guest. Justice Soumendra Sarker, Former Justice, Supreme Court, Sri Prabir Kumar Saha, Former Director, FBCCI, Dr Chandranath Podder, Mathematics Department, Dhaka University were present as the special guests. Sri Gopal Chandra Devnath, Social personality delivered inaugural address. Swami Purnatmananda delivered presidential address. The Army Chief was accompanied by Major General S. M. Asadul Haque, NDC, PSC, GOC 9, Brig. Gen Md Mainuddin Shamim NDC, PSC, commandant CMP Center and School. The Chief Guest and GOC 9 has been honoured by offering Crest. The crest was offered by Swami Purnatmananda. This is the first time Army Chief came to Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka.

At 5:00 P.M. Solo Tabla was performed by Kumar Prativimba, Scholar, Bengal Tradition Music School. At 5:30 P.M. cultural program was performed by the children artistes of ‘Samarpan Kala Kendra, Dhaka’. A discussion meeting titled ‘Sri Maa Sarada Devi and Social Progress’ was held after the evening prayer. Swami Purnatmananda in the Chair the meeting was addressed by Professor (Rtd) Eshani Chakraborty, History Department, Dhaka University and Dr. Mana Banik, Registrar, BIRDEM Hospital, Dhaka, as the special guests. Swami Kalpeshananda attached to Ramakrishna Math, Dhaka delivered inaugural address while Swami Ambeshananda gave vote of thanks. Inaugural and closing song in connection with this meeting were consecutively performed by Agnita Sikder and Sushmita Saha; both of them are the artistes of Bangladesh Radio and Bangladesh Television. The discussion meeting was followed by songs performed by Ferdous Ara, a renowned artist, Ekushey Padak Awardee and Soma Das, Bangladesh Radio and Bangladesh Television.

19 February was marked by Usha Kirtan, Special Puja, Homa, Bhajan, Reading from the Scriptures, Discussion in the morning in the temple. The discussion meeting in the temple titled ‘Sri Ramakrishna’ was addressed by Swami Purnatmananda. In the afternoon Sri Ramakrishna Lilakirtan (Gracious Thakur Sri Ramakrishna) was prformed by Dr. Sujit Chandra Das and party. The Lilakirtan was followed by Lyrical Performance by Children Artistes; the Lyrical Performance was directed by Sathi Das, Dhaka. It was followed by a cultural program, performed by children artistes of `Spandan Academy’. A discussion meeting titled ‘Universility of Sri Ramakrishna’ was held after the evening prayer. Swami Purnatmananda in the chair the discussion meeting was addressed by Mr. Pranay Verma, High Commissioner, High Commission of India in Bangladesh as the Chief Guest, Professor Md. Nuruzzaman, Philosophy Department, Dhaka University and Dr. Shinjini Sarker, Assistant Professor, Sir Sallimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, as the special guests. Mr. Pranay Verma was accompanied by his wife Mrs Manu Verma and Mr. Gokul V. K., 1 st Secretary, Political and Press, High Commission of India in Bangladesh, Dhaka. A book named ‘Drik-Drishya-Vivek’ and compiled with the selected drawings of the competitors of the Drawing Competition was published from Dhaka Math, which has been unveiled by the President, Chief Guest and special guests of the discussion meeting. This is the first time such book was published from Ramakrishna Math, Dhaka. Winners of Drawing, Gita Chanting, Quiz and Speech Competition were awarded with crest and mug, printed with motif of the 191 st Birth Day Celebration Sri Ramakrishna. Swandipa Saha, one of participants of Gita Chanting Competition chanted from Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Akhter Jahan, one of the participants of Speech Competition delivered speech at the beginning of the Discussion meeting. Swami Devadhyanananda gave vote of thanks.
The discussion meeting was followed by Drama ‘Matri darshan’, composed & directed by Shubhashish Dutta Tanmoy and performed by the artistes of ‘Vivekananda Theatre’.

20 February was marked by Ramayan Song, Naranarayan Seva, Variety Performances by the Children Artistes and songs. At 9:00 A. M. Ramayana Song was performed by Sri Shiveshwar Chandra Das and party. Naranarayana Seva was held at noon. Variety performance by the Children Artistes was held in the afternoon. After Evening Aratrikam Songs were performed by Swami Punnyadananda, Sri Bijan Mistry, Dipankar Mandal and Nishu Bhattacharjee.

About 30,000 people attended the 4 day program and took cooked prasad. All ended peacefully and smoothly by the co-operation of all.
